From Monday, 22nd of February, Maciej Kuźmiński will deliver a two-week intensive Masterclasses for second and third year students at ArtEZ University of Arts in the Netherlands. During the two-weeks workshops, Maciej Kuźmiński will introduce students to the secrets of his original method of creative work “Dynamic Phrasing”

 

In Dynamic Phrasing Kuźmiński draws from the energy-driven Tai Chi and Qigong philosophies. In the 45-60 min warm-up the pedagogue introduces repeated, looped movements that bring out a sense of coherence and greater rootedness. Then, a flowing, spiralling energy is incorporated into dynamic dance sequences, to shape the awareness of the soft and powerful body. The elements of Dynamic Phrasing are the Floor Work and Task Basket techniques. The Floor Work is delivered by Maciej in a structured and detailed way. Building a vocabulary of complimentary moves, based on turning, travelling and diving, the pedagogue introduces concepts of continuity, flow, efficiency and spacial awareness to bring a physical and challenging, yet very fun class. The Task Basket is a 4-step re-composition method. By focusing on  particular elements comprising a sequence the Task Basket allows the choreographer to re-work any material into an interesting / unusual material. This highly efficient tool is being utilised by the choreographer in his own artistic practice.

ArtEZ, with headquarters in Arnhem, Enschede and Zwolle, is one of the largest Dutch art academies and its dance department is considered, alongside the Codarts in Rotterdam, one of the best in the Netherlands. The history of ArtEZ school dates back to the end of the 1930s (Winja Marova School). About 3,000 students study at all faculties of the conservatory.

Maciej Kuźmiński has previously worked as a guest teacher at ArtEZ, and in 2020 with first-year students he prepared the performance “METAMORPHINE”, which due to the pandemic turned into a film.  Now Maciej Kuźmiński will meet them again (already as second-year students) to improve their workshop.
