Memoryhouse
LANDESTHEATER LINZ | MACIEJ KUŹMIŃSKI
A kinetic, and meditative work, mixing fiery contemporary dance with Zen-like installation art, Memoryhouse is a lyrical and ecstatic journey into the eternal heart of myth, mapped on the human body in an atmosphere of dream and remembrance.
Constantly changing image constellations arise, which Maciej Kuźmiński draws with intensive choreographic language. [...] “Memoryhouse” achieves its effect through Tanz Linz’s strong, technically capable ensemble, and creative staging.

What is certain is that Tanz Linz has reached the top of all Austrian dance companies with this choreography and the energy of personal commitment.
With the dancers, Kuźmiński has created a work that impresses through the choreography and dance as well as through the unity of movement, music and stage design. A total work of art that does not lack depth and freedom of thought for the audience. Frenetic cheers also ended the fifth performance.

Kuzminski and dramaturg Paul Bargetto allow the captivating choreography to unfold to the sound of sea waves and thunderstorms. [...] dancers, who, without any signs of fatigue, are full of dynamism, strength, concentration and maximum body control, captivating the premiere audience in this deeply demanding production. Kuzminski creates powerful male duos, female-male threesomes, foursomes and fivesomes cavorting in an androgynous way in adventurous diagonals and horizontal positions.
Always precise with full physical contact in the individual search for forms and dance-based creation of humanity's memory on its way from the past to the future, like an Ariadne's thread, but here not for Theseus, but for the audience.

the flowing dance that immerses us in emotional worlds fed by mythological figures. (...) It quickly develops its pull, as if you were being washed away in 70 entertaining, intense minutes. (...) The Landestheater ensemble Tanz.Linz touches the audience in the choreography “Memoryhouse” by Maciej Kuzminski. Enthusiastic applause.

Given Memoryhouse's excellent choreography, it seems almost strange that Maciej Kuźmiński (39) hasn't really caught on with local dance organizers yet. Now it is Roma Janus, director of Tanz Linz for almost two years, who is finally letting the internationally sought-after Pole work at a larger Austrian institution.
At the end there was enthusiastic applause, although Kuźmiński shows a deeply eerie scenario: figures dancing around the relic of a huge concrete roll or cave (a real masterpiece by Gabriela Neubauer) seem like successors to the Beckett-like figures in May B.
