For what is to come

In 2022, Europe faced its most severe refugee crisis since the end of World War II, triggered by Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Within just two months, over 8 million Ukrainians—primarily women and children—were forced to flee their homes, seeking safety across borders and within their own country.

For What Is to Come is a poignant exploration of compassion amid chaos. This project pays homage to the remarkable solidarity shown by Polish women, who stepped forward with open hearts and unwavering resolve. In the absence of formal systems, they became pillars of support for Ukrainian refugees—welcoming them into their homes, comforting them in shelters, and guiding them through moments of fear and uncertainty in therapy rooms.

Through intimate stories and quiet acts of care, the work reflects on how empathy can transcend borders, how shared humanity can shape resilience, and how ordinary individuals can offer extraordinary hope during times of upheaval.

Slowly, like a falling wase, I gather my strength before the dams open, don’t let them.
Me of memory, of projected past onto the present, in exile from peace, still in stillness.
But then her kind presence is transition, stillness is moved, and I believe again.
Find a human-like shape and depart. One step at a time.
